Maintain Balance In today’s fast-paced world, women are constantly balancing the demands of work and home, often at the expense of their health. In her insights, Dr. Manjari, a renowned health expert and author, emphasizes the critical need for women to maintain this balance for their physical and mental well-being. She points out that a supportive family, strong social connections, and feeling loved are as essential to women health as professional success. Putting Oneself First “Women are the backbone of society, but they often neglect their needs and health. They have to juggle multiple roles and responsibilities, which can take a toll on their physical and mental health. Only when women realize that they cannot take care of others if they do not take care of themselves first,” She says. Stress factors Dr Chandra also addresses the common fatigue issue among working women, highlighting that high stress levels are often the culprit. Stress management techniques such as meditation, yoga, breathing exercises, and hobbies and teaches the importance of reacting calmly to stress, thereby promoting overall health and energy levels. According to her, stress is inevitable today, but how we cope with it makes a difference. Did you know? Stress can affect our immune system, hormones, mood, and sleep quality, leading to various health problems. While talking to her, “Women need to learn to manage stress effectively and not let it overwhelm them. They need to find time for themselves and do things that make them happy and relaxed,” adds Chandra Importance of Nutrition Furthermore, she underscores the importance of Nutrition, advising women to choose wholesome, natural foods over processed options. Making small but significant changes, like including fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and whole grains in meals and avoiding sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. Also, regular health check-ups and screenings, especially for women above 40 years of age. “Nutrition is the foundation of health. What we eat affects our body and mind. Be mindful of what they put in their mouths and how it impacts their health. Eat a balanced diet with all the essential nutrients and antioxidants. They must also monitor their health regularly and seek medical help if they notice any symptoms or changes.” To conclude Dr Chandra’s advice is clear: women must prioritize their health by managing stress, eating nutritious foods, and maintaining a balance between their personal and professional lives. This holistic approach is critical to ensuring their well-being and enabling them to thrive in all aspects of life. Finally, she concludes, “Women are powerful and capable of achieving anything they set their mind to. But they must remember that their health is their greatest asset, and they should not compromise it for anything. Debunking the Whey Protein Myth: Insights from Dr. Manjari Chandra

In India, a common belief prevails that our predominantly vegetarian diets are inherently deficient in protein. This notion has led to the proliferation of whey protein supplements in the market, but according to renowned nutritionist Dr Manjari Chandra, this trend might be misleading and potentially harmful. “People have been led to believe that they need to supplement their diet with whey protein to be healthy, muscular, and energetic. However, this is a fabricated truth,” Dr. Chandra states. She emphasizes that the glorification of protein, especially in the form of whey supplements, is more a marketing strategy than a health necessity. Dr. Chandra points to research and clinical trials conducted at leading Indian institutes that raise concerns about the safety of these protein powders. “Many of these powders contain pre-steroids, pre-hormones, and even toxic metals, which pose a significant health risk,” she warns. While acknowledging that the Indian diet, heavy in wheat, rice, and flour, might not provide adequate protein, Dr. Chandra advises against turning to whey protein as a solution. “Our ancestors had a diet rich in nuts, seeds, diverse vegetables, lentils, beans, and millets, which provided a balanced protein intake. We need to revisit our traditional dietary practices rather than relying on supplements,” she suggests. The consumption of large amounts of whey protein can have adverse effects on vital organs. “The liver and kidneys are put under immense stress. The liver breaks down the protein into amino acids, leading to an excess production of ammonia. The kidneys then have to work overtime to eliminate this, which can lead to inflammation and other health issues,” explains Dr. Chandra. She contrasts this with natural healing foods like black pepper, turmeric, pudina, lemon, or aamla, which are anti-inflammatory and beneficial to our health. The nutritionist criticizes the role of social media in perpetuating the whey protein myth. “Social media often blurs the line between factual information and marketing, making it difficult for people to understand the real picture. Many feel they are missing out on something beneficial by not consuming whey protein, which is far from the truth,” she asserts. Finally, Dr. Manjari Chandra advocates for a return to traditional, balanced diets as the solution to protein deficiency, rather than reliance on potentially harmful supplements. “The key to good health lies in natural, wholesome foods that our bodies are designed to process, not in artificially manufactured supplements,” she concludes. Her insights serve as a reminder to reevaluate our dietary choices and resist the allure of quick fixes promised by the supplement industry. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes in India has increased by 64% over the last 25 years, according to the November 2017 report by the Indian Council for Medical Research and the Public Health Foundation. India will reach 90 million people with diabetes in the year 2030 if diabetes continues at the present rate.

I have been here, just a different name, but they all look the same. As the night falls, corridors become quieter, like deafening silence. During the day, it was buzzing with people opening and shutting doors and no place to sit. Now, as I ponder, I wonder how many people struggle to live, hoping to recover or have a child. Everyone is in pain, but not everyone is crying. Concealing their tears with pride or just accepting reality as is, the realization has set in. From here, people will change into a better version of themselves. This bolt is grave enough to change anyone or become grave for one. Life gives second chances and even miracles; this place has great stories to tell. They keep this place swanky and clean. More cleaners than the guards they keep. I walk from one corner to another and back and make many rounds like that. If I had a company of a doctor friend, I would know a lot more then. I have memories of the government wards, where you know more people than you thought. Even the helpless help that’s remarkable about this place, government or private. SHE – Smile, Hope, and Encouragement form the backbone of this health institution. Without her, nothing is possible. She is essential for this institution to grow and care for broken bones and hearts—these values I see in every nurse or helper and all professionals who come to serve. Even the celebrations irk. Next to you, there may be someone destitute and broken. Babies come into this world and bring smiles. The wallpaper of Teddy and Kitty reflects the girl and boy. New beginnings for a couple, a fixed leg for the crippled, a facelift for the wrinkled, a cancer survivor, and the list of how many lives magically touched. Our journey begins from here. A doctor helped us out from the darkness of the womb. Then, I also saw people departing from here, taking a flight to nowhere. A place they call heaven. Relieved of their worries  and pains, no suitcase they carried bare bodied they went. This place is named a Hospital, distinguishing it from an airport terminal. We, people, are transient, we come here, and we go. I’m an attendant who has visited this place many times. I have spent nights like this in wonder. Today, I pen down my feelings as a lot has changed from then to now. The Green curtains have gone, and the smell of phenyl is not there anymore. Lines of people standing in the queue get seated in the lobby zone. Health food shops and chic café add to the necessary pharmacy. As you enter the building, there is no lobby music but a fresh lime fragrance to calm your mind of worries. As the night passes, it gets quieter. I may not be able to sleep a wink. No one wishes to come here, but they still come. Sitting and reflecting, I miss my dad and my darling husband. It’s painful, those memories of the time spent with them here at the hospital where I am. Then, I say to myself; I’m just a guest here. Some work here tirelessly and face the odds daily – the doctors, the nurse, and the staff.
